OCR: The Project Discussions on a photographic project to mark the year 2000 Millennium were instigated by Alan Bardsley of Macclesfield Camera Club in February 1997. The concept was to record the people and places of the Borough of Macclesfield and create a permanent archive with, appropriately for the year 2000, 2000 images. The images would be accompanied by information giving the date and place and details and commentary about the subject. The Project was finally inaugurated in November 1998 with the support of the members of the following voluntary organisations :- Knutsford Photographic Society North Cheshire Photographic Society Knutsford Civic Society Pickmere Photographic and Heritage Society Macclesfield Camera Chib Wilmslow Guild Photographic Society Macclesfield Civic Trust Wilmslow Trust Advice and technical support was given by Macclesfield Museums Trust and the Leisure Services Department of Macclesfield Borough Council. The photographs and image data were all completed by volunteer effort. The materials, reproduction of digital images and administration costs were financed by a grant from the Millennium Working Group of the Borough Council. The total cost of the Project was £18,000. Photography commenced in February 1999 to last until June 2002 with some 10,000 original images being taken by 42 photographers. The Project was organised and run by the following Committee :- Alan Bardsley, Chairman; John K Downs, Treasurer Jon Allanson, Ian Brammer, Lillian Burns, John Davies, Vivien Davies, George Foll, Sue Heath, Bill Salkeld, Gordon Sidery, Peter Stubbs, Sue Wallworth. Macclesfield Museums Trust was represented by Louanne Collins and Macclesfield Borough Council by Mark Wheelton. Macclesfield Borough Millennium Working Group The Millennium Working Group of the Borough Council was formed to support activities in the Borough specifically recognising the Millennium. It was in existence from 1998 to 2000 to co-ordinate the Borough's activities for Millennium events. It was chaired by Max Hartley, Chief Leisure Services Officer and the Councillor members were :- Carolyn Andrew, Ainsley Amold, Barry Buckhill, Muriel Clampett, Norman Edwards, Emily Maddocks, Sarah Thompson. The Group supported some 35 Community Projects. Technical note The original film used was 35mm Fuji Sensia 200 ISO, reversal colour slide. The images were scanned at 3,600 x 2,400 pixels to create 3 Mb files in JPEG format for high quality archives with a subset at 800 x 532 pixels, 100 Kb in JPEG format, for this Compact Disc.
